The San Marino GP looks as though it could be a key one in the championship. Valentino Rossi's lead has been cut to just 25 points - a Rossi crash and a Lorenzo win would see the Spaniard draw level with his Fiat Yamaha team-mate.
Rossi qualified on pole in typically dramatic fashion, with Dani Pedrosa alongside him on the front row and Lorenzo behind them.
The post mortem begins - replays show that De Angelis clipped the back of Edwards on as he tried to sneak inside on the second corner, and in turn Edwards just caught Hayden who almost accelerated enough to get clear. all this was happening just inches behind Lorenzo, who will count himself very lucky when he sees the footage later.
Valentino Rossi nods his head wildly as he wheelies over the line to take the flag and his sixth race win of the season.
